At the moment of His death, there was a strange darkness in the air and the earth trembled. A Roman officer exclaimed “surely this is the Son of God”. To confirm that Jesus was one-hundred percent dead, a soldier pierced the heart of Jesus with a long spear. Blood and water gushed out. There was no doubt. Jesus Christ, the Savior of the World, was dead. Near the place where Jesus was crucified there was a newly made tomb – carved from rock – belonging to a man named Joseph. Along with another man named Nicodemus, they carried the lifeless body of Jesus to the tomb. Just as the Friday sun was setting, they wrapped the body in grave clothes for burial, placed it in the tomb, and rolled a large stone to seal the grave. Roman guards were posted at the entrance to make sure that the grave would not be disturbed.
