When Jesus had finished meeting with His friends, it was very late at night. Jesus and eleven of His disciples then walked to a secret location where they were in the habit of praying. This place, called Gethsemane, was in an olive grove just outside of town. Jesus was fully aware of the suffering that was ahead for Him. Jesus left His followers sleeping as He knelt and prayed, “Father, if it is your will, let the cup of suffering pass from me. But I want your will to be done, not mine”. Jesus prayed so hard that sweat like drops of blood poured from His face. No great trial should be faced without great prayer, and Jesus was about to face the greatest suffering of all time. He would be beaten and humiliated. As a lamb led to slaughter, Jesus would die for the sins of the world.
