Jesus is Lord over death. As Jesus was traveling with His disciples, He heard that His friend Lazarus had died. When He approached the grave site, Mary the sister of Lazarus, ran to Him saying, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died”. Jesus told her, “your brother will rise again”. Mary answered, “I know that my brother will rise in the resurrection of the dead”. Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes on me, even though he is dead, yet he will live.” Jesus wept in sympathy with the mourners, then He walked to the tomb. After a prayer, He cried out, “Lazarus, come forth”. And Lazarus – the man who was dead – walked out of the grave. His amazed friends removed the grave clothes and celebrated his return. Even death obeys the command of Christ!
