In the fullness of time, when Caesar Augustus was emperor in Rome, a virgin girl named Mary became pregnant by the power of the Holy Spirit. She gave birth to her first-born son in the town of Bethlehem. Joseph, the husband of Mary, named the child “Jesus” which means “God saves” in Hebrew. Jesus the Savior was born humbly in a barn, because there was no room for Him in crowded Bethlehem. Angels announced His coming and shepherds rushed down from the hillsides to visit Him. Wise men traveled from the distant East following a star, bringing gifts to the child who was born to be King. The prophecies of old came to pass. This “Christmas event” – this incarnation – is the biggest miracle in all of history. The eternal Son of God entered our world of space and time. “The Word became flesh and lived among us”.
